Under Armour Embraces The Magnetic Zipper
When clothing zippers work, they're fantastic. Every now and then, however, a zipper goes rogue and breaks or gets stuck. Fortunately, sports clothing company Under Armour has fixed the zipper.
The apparel maker has applied the power of strong magnets to the zipper concept to provide customers with the Magzip. In a video on its YouTube page, Under Armour introduced the world to this magnetic zipper. All people have to do is hold the bottom parts of their zipper close to one another and they snap together with ease. Then, all individuals need is one free hand to zip up their apparel.
While this revolutionary zipper technology may be new to Under Armour products, it's actually been around for a long time. The concept originated with engineer Scott Peters, whose uncle developed the medical condition myotonic dystrophy, according to Co. Design. Peters wanted to help his uncle live a more convenient life. As the condition led to a loss of strength and coordination in his appendages, using everyday zippers became problematic. A magnetic zipper, however, was an appealing solution. Today, magnetic zippers and other types of magnets are helping people with disabilities get dressed everyday.
