Each summer, millions of people head out to the golf course and unwind while taking in a beautiful day. If you are a golf enthusiast or want to give a unique gift to a golfer in your life, this week’s craft is for you. These golf ball magnets are a great way to add a golf flair to your man cave or commemorate a memorable moment from your latest round. Let’s take a look at how you can create this neat project and become the talk of the clubhouse.

Supplies

This project only requires a few supplies, but you may need to head to the hardware store to get everything you need. You can also use new or used golf balls. Be sure to visit our online store to purchase the necessary magnets. You can also enjoy same-day shipping if your order is placed by 3 PM EST.    You will need:
  • Golf balls
  • Disc magnets (½”x1/8”)
  • Clamp
  • Crafting glue
  • Hacksaw
  • Protective gloves
  • Sharpie
  • Sandpaper

Steps

This project is straightforward but it is important to be safe and to stay away from children due to the use of the hacksaw. The ball will also roll away due to the pressure needed to cut through it at the start, which is why you should double-check that it is clamped properly before cutting.    Follow these steps:
  • Determine how many golf balls you would like to cut.
  • Make a line around the perimeter of your ball with your Sharpie to ensure an accurate cut.
  • Place your first golf ball in the clamp.
  • Cut down through about ⅓ of your ball before loosening the clamp slightly to relieve some of the pressure on your halves.
  • Rotate the ball and continue cutting along the line.
  • Once you have cut the whole way around the ball, you can loosen the clamp slightly. Continue cutting through the entire ball. You will now have two halves of a golf ball!
  • Use sandpaper to make the inside of your pieces smoother. After brushing away any shavings, place some glue on your magnet and press it on the inside of the ball. Repeat this for the other half of the ball.
  • Once dry, you can now hang up photos, old golf scorecards, and more!
  • If you need more than two magnets, just repeat the steps above.
  • You can also keep the half with the name of the ball manufacturer on it to see how many brands are represented in your collection!
