Could the key to perfect skin be magnets? I bet you never thought the two had anything in common. Most of us didn’t. (Other than Cleopatra, who slept with a magnetic amulet on her head to maintain her youthful appearance.) That is until recently, when high-end brands including Memebox, Dr. Brandt and Lancer Skincare began introducing magnetic face masks! How To Use: These products, which range in price from $50 - $250, allow you to run a magnet over your face to attract and pull away impurities from the skin. The magnetic masks are just as simple as any other facemask on the shelves. You apply a layer to the skin and wait for about 5-10 minutes. And then typically, the other mask’s directions would suggest wiping off or washing away. But not for the magnetic face mask. Once the mask has set for the suggested amount of time, take the provided magnet (yes, this skin care product comes with its own magnet!) and cover it in a tissue or cloth - to prevent a mess. As the magnet hovers above your skin, the negatively charged mud mask attaches to it; removing dirt and impurities and leaving behind the essential oils from the mask. The final step is massaging the oils into your skin, which leaves your face glowing with freshly cleaned pores! How It Works: You’re probably still wondering... why you would ever put a magnet to your face? Well, the process of applying the magnet over the mask creates a low-grade electromagnetic current, which may help rejuvenate the skin while the mask is removed. Active ingredients in these magnetic mask are hydroxypinacolone retinoate (it’ll speed up your cell turnover and collagen production), mineral powder and even, iron powder. The interaction between the mud face mask and the magnet also creates a microcurrent stimulation, which is a technique used in facials to de-puff the skin and make it glow. Results: So is this mask just another skin care fad? According to Daily Mail, the magnetic face masks are fun to use and do, in fact, leave your skin radiant afterwards. It seems that Cleopatra may have knew what she was doing. For more exciting magnetic news and how-to’s make sure to check out the rest of our blog!
